Heather's story continued...
My life change hit me like a ton of bricks one day in mid-November ’05. I was getting dressed and my size 12 pants were
uncomfortably tight, I tried to justify it; I must have shrunk them in the dryer, too much salt, it’s PMS and I’m just bloated, etc. At
work that day I noticed Pamela looked different to me, not did you get a hair cut different, but different, she had a gleam in her eye
and her skin looked alive with a rosy glow. I waited for her to come by my cube and I pulled her in and asked her what it was. “So
you notice something’s different,” she asked, rather pleased with herself, obviously toying with me because she knew I was
clueless. She finally came clean and told me she had lost 35 lbs, I almost fell off my chair – I could not believe it! When I picked
my jaw up off the floor and stopped hugging her she told me how she was losing the weight. I thought, "If Pamela can do it, so
can I!" In another twist of fate my good friend, Linda, contacted me the same day and said let’s try this thing called ediet.com. At
this point I knew this was more than a coincenidence, this was divine intervention saying get off your butt and do something about
your weight. Ignoring these signs was probably not wise.
I joined ediet.com w/Linda in mid-Nov weighing in at 169 lbs. Ediet.com helped me learn portion size and good food choices. To
have Linda’s support was what kept me going and kept me honest, because at the beginning I did not know if I was going to
make it. I could call her and know she was going through the same thing and we would help each other through it. I had lost 20
lbs by mid-January. I stopped ediet in January – I had learned what to eat and how much to eat but I knew I had to step it up a
notch. I bought a treadmill and started walking. Mike & Julie (VTLDs personal trainer’s) gave me some great tips and articles to
help me with my workouts. I also cut sugar from my diet and try to eat whole foods and of course tons of “dirt” and fruit. I
personally like dirt, which I know bugs Pamela – so I feel the need to point it out to her often.
Pamela has influenced so many people on her personal quest. She is so honest, funny and real in her approach, if you can’t
laugh about all this you could easily go crazy. When I don’t want to work out, it is Pamela’s words echoing in my head, “Yeah, it
sucks but you just have to .” that gets me moving. Or when I wanted to eat something bad, “It is not easy, you know what you have
to do so do it.” whispers in my ear. It was seeing the pounds being replaced by stickers on her chart that showed me she has the
power and motivation, which fueled my own. I am seeing now that supporting Pamela gave me the strength to support myself.
I am now 134 lbs and wear a 6 or 8 in pants depending on cut, style, etc…you know the drill and I feel fantastic! I feel strong and
healthy. Sure, it is hard to pass up the cookies or donuts but it gets easier. Now when I pass, I really do not want them because I
am important and my body is important, I need to do what I can to keep it healthy.
Love ya Pamela – you rock!
Pamela's note: Heather is an inspiration to me. She is simply one of the best people I know. Her continued support and
encouragement through this process has been invaluable to me. She gives me too much credit here. This is something she did
for herself and I have to say she looks fantastic! I've known Heather for 4 years and she looks better now than she ever has. I'm
so proud of her for her determination and her healthful approach.
