Heather's Entry October 15, 2006--How Do You "Push Back"?

Does anyone else find it hard to eat healthy at the office? I am constantly surrounded by candy dishes, potlucks and pizza…oh my!

The non-verbal temptation of the food is usually bad enough but then you get the, what I like to call, “food pushers”. They do not take no for an answer. Sometimes just to get them to leave me alone, I will take whatever it is they are pushing and either give it (not push it) to someone else or throw it away. I know I can hear the collective gasp from all you Moms and former members of the Clean Plate Club but I feel it is my only option.

I also hear comments like, “you’re thin you can eat it”. I worked hard to get thin and I do not want to blow it in a few moments of weakness.

How do I stay strong when I just want to be weak? How do I make the “pushers” understand thanks but no thanks?

Lie and tell them that you have "allergies".

...Or just punch them really hard in the throat. That's what I would do.

I like Mary's thought, but assuming that you don't want an assault or battery charge on your hands, I'd try the taste method. My aunt does this and it seems to work well for her. She takes a TINY taste of something so that she can honestly tell the person that she has tried it and whether or not she likes it. Now, my aunt is very polite, so she always tells the person she liked it . . . but you can do what feels right!
